What does 0.135 inch mean for SS10?

The Rhinestone World recommends a 0.135 inch template hole for SS10 in its rhinestone-shirt tutorial. That converts to 3.429 mm. Treat this as a supplier’s recommended workflow, not a universal dimension for every SS10 stone, cutting machine or stencil material. StoneRoster’s hole-diameter field sets the circles cut from your template. It does not measure your stones or select a blade setting. Confirm the starting recommendation with your material and stone supplier.

Test five nearby sizes on scrap

The free fit test above and every StoneRoster pack include calibration.svg. Alongside a 100 × 20 mm reference rectangle, it contains five patches of 25 holes each. For a selected diameter of 3.429 mm, the patches run left to right at 3.229, 3.329, 3.429, 3.529 and 3.629 mm. The test kit’s README identifies each patch; the SVG has no extra text or patch borders to cut.

Each patch uses the same center-to-center spacing, so the larger holes have a smaller gap. The largest trial diameter keeps your chosen minimum gap. Testing a small grid lets you compare brushing and transfer across several holes; complete a full-name test after choosing the best diameter.

  1. Import the calibration SVG and verify the rectangle measures 100 × 20 mm in your cutting software. Keep the original scale.
  2. Cut scrap of the same template material you intend to use. Follow your supplier’s blade and cutting settings, then check the actual rectangle dimensions.
  3. Brush stones from the intended batch into each 25-hole patch. Check settling, unwanted movement and clean transfer. Inspect the cut edges before deciding that a different diameter is needed.
  4. Select the best working diameter, regenerate your pack with that setting and test one full name before cutting the team roster.

Change the holes in the generator

Do not scale a finished name to adjust stone fit. Scaling changes the holes, spacing and overall size together. For example, shrinking a 3.429 mm hole to 90% makes it 3.0861 mm. A better-looking screen layout can leave holes too small for your stones.

Instead, enter the new hole diameter in StoneRoster. Review the regenerated name width and stone count. The generator keeps each hole circular and checks the minimum gap; it will flag a name that cannot fit the selected width with those settings.

Fit the name to the job separately

Measure the decoration area before choosing a maximum name width. Check each design’s listed dimensions: shorter names may not fill the maximum width. If a long name is rejected, adjust the layout settings or use a shorter version agreed with the customer.

Keep a note of the stone batch, material, machine, blade settings and successful hole diameter. Recheck the calibration when that combination changes. Design counts exclude trial holes and spare stones for your brushing and transfer process.
